Trebuie să existe oameni care să se sacrifice pentru neam. Altfel va cădea cerul pe noi. Dacă cineva va face bine celorlalţi, răsplata este harul şi bucuria de la Dumnezeu, prigoana şi clevetirea de la oameni.

Spune Sf. Isaac Sirul că dacă faci un lucru şi nu îţi vine ispită, înseamnă că nu l-ai făcut cum trebuia. E nevoie să dovedeşti că ai făcut acest lucru pentru Dumnezeu, pentru bine şi nu pentru slava deşartă. Îmi amintesc că în urmă cu câţiva ani unul dintre primii atacatori ai p. Stareţ Efrem scria într-o gazetă “Cum îndrăzneşte Efrem să spună că ‘Îmi port crucea’ ???” Ziaristul respectiv a fost luat de valul istoriei în timp ce p. Egumen Efrem a rămas exemplu şi rugător pentru neam în faţa lui Dumnezeu. Cine nu urmează lui Hristos dispare în neant. Aşa judecă istoria.

Toţi suntem călători pe drumul nostru către desăvârşire, în spirala noastră către Dumnezeu. Însă avem nevoie de jaloane, avem nevoie de exemple, de stâlpi care să mai ţină cerul să nu cadă pe noi. E nevoie de rugători pentru neam care să acopere nimicnicia noastră.

Şi la lumina lor poate că ne vom încălzi şi noi puţin.

Πρέπει να υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που θα θυσιαστούν για το έθνος. Σε αντίθετη περίπτωση, ο ουρανός θα πέσει πάνω μας. Αν κάποιος θα κάνει καλό στους άλλους, η ανταμοιβή από το Θεό είναι η χάρις και χαρά, ενώ από τους ανθρώπους – διώξεις και κουτσομπολιά.

Ο Άγιος Ισαάκ ο Σύρος λέει ότι αν κάνετε κάτι και δεν έχετε πειρασμούς, αυτό σημαίνει ότι δεν έχετε κάνει αυτό το πράγμα, όπως θα έπρεπε. Θα πρέπει να αποδείξεις ότι το έκανες αυτό το καλό για το Θεό και όχι για τη μάταιη δόξα. Θυμάμαι όταν πριν από λίγα χρόνια, ένας από τους πρώτους που επιτέθηκαν στον Γέροντα Εφραίμ έγραψε σε μια εφημερίδα, “Πώς ο Εφραίμ τολμά να πει «εγώ κουβαλάω τον σταυρό μου »???”. Ο δημοσιογράφος έχει παρασυρθεί από την παλλίροια της ιστορίας, ενώ Ηγούμενος Εφραίμ παρέμεινε ένα παράδειγμα και ένα πυλώνας ο οποίος προσεύχεται για το έθνος μπροστά στον Θεό. Αυτός που δεν ακολουθεί τον Χριστό εξαφανίζεται μέσα στο τίποτα . Με τον τρόπο αυτό δικάζει η ιστορία…

Είμαστε όλοι προσκυνητές στο δρόμο μας προς την τελειότητα, στον δύσκολο δρόμο προς τον Θεό. Όμως χρειαζόμαστε ορόσημα, χρειαζόμαστε παραδείγματα, πυλώνες που πρέπει να υποστηρίξουν τον ουρανό για να μην πέσει πάνω μας. Χρειαζόμαστε ανθρώπους που προσεύχονται για το έθνος , άνδρες, οι οποίοι πρέπει να καλύπτουν την ανυπαρξία μας.

Και στο φως τους ίσως να ζεσταθούμε λίγο.

There must be people that will sacrifice for the nation. Otherwise, the sky will fall on us. If someone will do good to others, the reward from God is grace and joy, whereas from people – persecution and gossip.

St. Isaac the Syrian says that if you do something and you do not have temptations, it means that you didn’t do that thing as you should. You need to prove that you did that good thing for God and not for the vain glory. I remember when few years ago , one of the first attackers of Elder Ephraim wrote in a newspaper, “How does Ephraim dare to say ‘I bear my cross’ ???”. The journalist has been taken by the tide of history while Abbot Ephraim remained an example and a pillar who prays for the nation in front of God. The one who doesn’t follow Christ disappears in nothingness. In this way the history judges .

We are all pilgrims on our way to perfection, in our spiral to God. But we need landmarks, we need examples, we need pillars that must support the sky in order not to fall on us. We need men who pray for the nation, men who must cover our nothingness.

And at their light perhaps we will warm up a little.
