Diveevo is one of the holiest places in Russia. The relics of the Russian saint Seraphim Sarovsky are kept in Saint Trinity Cathedral in Diveevo. He was one of the few saints who attained spiritu–al perfection after going through many deeds: being a hermit, keeping silent, solitary life. The Virgin appeared to him 12 times. Saint Seraphim blessed the construction of 9 monasteries in Nizhny Novgorod region. Saint Seraphim lived in the 18th -19th centuries. He was the Prior of Saint Trinity Monastery in Diveevo. In 1903 the Holy Synod canonized Seraphim on the base of information o(many cases of recovering after Seraphim’s praying.
Unfortunately in 1927 the monastery was closed and only in spring 1990 it was open again. In 1991 the relics of Saint Seraphim which were found in one of Saint Petersburg cathedrals were brought to the’ monastery. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Diveevo to bow to his relics.
